Jubilación! – We Learned a New Word in Spanish

We are learning many new words in Spanish everyday as we work to improve our vocabulary. Today we learned a new word that just made us laugh out loud.

We are often asked what we “do” by people both at school and here at the hostel. Every time imagewe meet someone new we find ourselves stumbling through this long explanation of what we used to do and what we are doing now. As we were explaining it to our teacher she said, “ah, jubilacion”. We were puzzled until she explained that jubilacion is the Spanish word for retirement. How ironic that their word for retirement is so similar to the English word jubilation! There are many words that we struggle to remember but jubilacion will not be one of them.

  1. Hi Tina and Michael – Ah! Retirement! Isn’t it great? I am so happy for you two – living your dream. Just so you won’t forget where you came from, I am attaching a few photos that I took at your going away party.

Speaking of living your dream, I am continuing my summer travels – first up to Coeur d’Alene in Idaho this summer, and now, I’m headed back up north to another Adventure Cycling Bicycle tour in South Dakota – in the Black Hills. I’ll be driving up there at the end of August – the tour is 7 days and travels through the Mount Rushmore/Custer State Park area. I had a driving trip up in this area about 10 years ago and thought what a great place to cycle. Anyway, you guys take care and continue having a great time! – Nancy
