For years we have been dreaming about and planning our trip but it all seemed so far away. Well we got the ball rolling, we committed to a Spanish language school in Guadalajara Mexico. Yes, I know it’s still four months until we leave but after much research we made our decision and decided to just “go for it”.
We selected the IMAC Spanish Language Program. They have been in business for about 40 years and have
many certifications. We like that they offer six hours of language lessons each day along with opportunities to have conversations with Spanish speakers and participate in city talks to gain deeper understanding of Mexican culture. They also offer the opportunity to take lessons like salsa and guitar at no extra cost. Their all-inclusive tuition includes the school and accommodations. For accommodations, they offer a homestay with a local family or a stay in a local hostel.
We decided on two weeks with accommodations in a local hostel. The all-inclusive cost is $588 per week per person for school and a room. For this we get a taxi ride from the airport to the city, a week of classes and accommodations and all of the extras that IMAC offers.
It is very exciting to have made the decision, applied and submitted the deposit. Now we need to take a written evaluation to determine where we should start. After seeing the exam I know that even with high school and college Spanish, I am a beginner. I hope two weeks is enough to get us started on our way.
We have done a lot of at home preparations like reading, making lists and getting vaccinations and passports but this was the first action toward our initial destination. It makes the whole adventure just that much more real.
